Life with a dog in the apartment has its challenges. Especially when we are talking about a large-sized dog.
And when we are talking about two dogs you might deal with contradictory feelings: you have a very active life, exciting, frustrating and joyful.
When you take a dog home the living space is no longer your own, but the quadruped’s as well. And there must be a set of rules and solutions so that "tenement dwellers" can be in harmony. And interior design need to be adjusted according to the needs of each "camp".
First, no matter how cute, adorable, sentimental swindlers are the pups, teaching them to sleep in their own “bed" is the wisest thing.
The best place to settle the dog’s bed is the place where it rests the most. If you force it to sit, stay, lay where you want, your dog will consider that you are punishing it.
And if you do not set clear rules from the beginning, you will be the one punished… by constantly cleaning the couch, for instance.
And avoid drastic measure to park and vacuum the sofa. Some dog owners do it, they place the vacuum cleaner by the sofa, because this ominous object is the pet’s boogie man, their childhood monster, which they fear terribly and the biped part of the family would rather keep it in sight and prevent them from climbing the sofa. It is not the thing to do, and instead opt for a peaceful and less traumatizing manner to deal with the situation.
Besides the sleeping place for our faithful friend, you have to keep in mind that you must create a special place for its personal items: special brushes, leash, collar, towels; it is important to always have at least two towels handy for the dog. When it rains, they tend to believe that you took them to the SPA and enjoy their “mud packs”.
And since we’ve mentioned mud packs, consider the bath "pet friendly" and "owner happy ". Do not use light colored mats, rugs, covers – it’s really pointless.
Dining place - preferably on the tiles. Pups, especially in the first year of life, have a lot of kiddie-fun actually jumping in the water bowl.
The food must be kept it in a special container. It has a peculiar odor and we do not want to transform the house into a smelly pet shop.
And watch where you leave your own food. You know dogs are insatiable and greedy and you might want to avoid unpleasant visits to the vet, especially that sugar can cause severe health problems in dogs and other foods for humans can cause intestinal derangements or obstructions.
Limit their access to certain areas on the floor when you are not home, especially when they are puppies, as they might misses their special diapers and you might find unwanted “leak” on your parquet. And if you have carpet in most rooms, too bad! From now on you will have to get used to clean especially the paw traces.
And the books – keep them at a distance. Dogs have a fantastic appetite for crunching!
When it comes to barking there aren’t too many tips. It is rather about the way you educate your four-pawed friend and if this won’t work either, maybe a total soundproofing will work. Or earplugs.
So let's recap: when you think to do interior design for your house or apartment, keep in mind the size and characteristics of your pet.
Resistant fabrics and materials that can be easily washed are preferred: covers and resistant floors are badly needed, and binding sites specifically designed for your pet.
Life with a pet is delightful. And with a minimum of effort, you can greatly reduce the small inconveniences of living together. And you can enjoy interior design project of your common crib - each in your own way.
