If you want a large kitchen which would rather be fit in a mansion, but you live in a small apartment in the heart of the city, you must not give up on your dreams; just try to abridge them a little.
Big dreams cooking in a small kitchen
An island-kitchen means a space for your essential cooking utensils and all the same, an area with plenty of room to improve your unforgettable recipes.
Building a small island-kitchen
Most small kitchens usually have an L-shape for maximizing the floor space. Instead, you can sacrifice a bit of floor to build an “island” which increases the cooking space. The “island” is made of two 80 cm cabinets, placed back to back, plus two cabinets of 30 cm on each side of the oven. Worktop is cut to size to fit the island, and has pre-cut holes for the hob and sink. In addition, for the kitchen to be more flexible, I added a stroller that gives you more space to work wherever you need.
The secrets of large-scale cooking in a small kitchen
If cooking is your biggest concern, you'll probably choose a hob with several burners, large enough to prepare several dishes simultaneously. You have enough space with a wider worktop. For cleaning and washing a large sink will provide you with enough workspace.
Make room for more accessories
When planning for a small kitchen cabinet, use the entire height of the room; use every centimeter in your advantage. But sometimes, in an empty space on the worktop you can store large plates of paella or trays that do not fit into kitchen cabinets. And with the area on the worktop remaining empty, it can be used for storing small accessories or as a cooling surface for a bowl or pie pan with the chicken dough to rise.
Use the walls in your advantage
If you ever prepared a great and complicated meal, you know you simply do not have enough time to rummage through the drawers for the grater or who knows what else. Open shelves and bars kept handy and easy to find all the utensils you use often, so you can concentrate leisurely on your soufflé and all the other yummy dishes. And in a small kitchen, the bars are useful to use most of the space, including walls which are usually empty.
Go to the top
There is a reason why buildings in big cities ascend to the sky: vertical layout is an effective use of space. This idea also applies to a small kitchen. Designing cabinets to the ceiling and you can store more items in them. You can use glass doors that are stylish and give you the feeling of wider space. Illumination inside the cabinets contributes to the light shed on the rest of the room.
